TYPES OF MEDITATION
Basically, there are two types of meditation: PHYSICAL and SPIRITUAL meditation using 'Mantra'(chanting) and/or 'Tantra' (releasing soul energy) processes. Physical meditation method focuses mainly on the human physical being, eg. body and breathing system, etc., whereas the spiritual meditation method focuses primarily on the human soul being or mind energy. Of all the different types of meditation, the most common and widely practised ones are 'LOVING KINDNESS (METTA)', 'SELF-OBSERVATION (VIPASSANA)' and the 'MANTRA-LINKED MIND RELAXATION (TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION).'
As a guide, there are 3 periods of meditation time which are as follows:-
a) The 1st Watch : 6.00 PM - 10.00 PM
b) The 2nd Watch : 10.01 PM - 2.00 AM
c) The 3rd Watch : 2.01 AM - 6.00 AM
The best period of meditation time is the '3rd watch' which is the time that Lord Buddha achieved His Enlightenment. It is said to equal '3 meditation times' of a normal meditation. Though this is a difficult time to get up to do meditation, it's a worthwhile 'speed-up' exercise than you do many times in a day.
